Sunny Angel – Cognitive Behaviour Therapist and Reiki Grandmaster
As an insecure 17-year-old, Sunny caught the eye of a predator, who groomed, raped, tortured and manipulated her. After her escape she was then propelled from one form of abuse to another – into a forced marriage arranged by her family to a man with learning difficulties and a mental age of a child. Now, more than 20 years after her initial abuse, Sunny stands strong and refuses to remain silent. She is a survivor of forced marriage, grooming and child abuse. By working with the police, judges, multi-faith NGOs and other agencies, Sunny uses her experience to safeguard and empower others.
Tell us a little about yourself and what you do.
I changed my name to ‘Sunny Angel’ by deed poll so I can tell my story, and help others heal from similar experiences, such as Stalking, Grooming, Torture, Modern Slavery, Sexual Abuse, Forced Marriage, Early Widowhood (and so much more). I’m a Cognitive Behaviour Therapist and Reiki Grandmaster now. I’m currently studying more to grow my knowledge and understanding to help others.

What purchase of £100 or less has most positively impacted your life in the last six months?
A bag of Crystals for £20. As a Reiki Grandmaster. I give away Crystals with Healing in them to those that come to me for Healing and Spiritual Protection.
How has a failure, or apparent failure, set you up for later success
I missed attending an Award Ceremony due to a date change. However, three better Media opportunities found me instead and I was able to help others in ‘real life’.
If you could have a gigantic billboard anywhere with anything on it — metaphorically speaking, getting a message out to millions or billions — what would it say and why?
‘And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music’ Friedrich Nietzsche
Sometimes others judge us, because they can’t hear what we hear. Our Souls dance to a rhythm they can’t hear.Keep dancing anyway. Others don’t know or understand what we have been through in our personal journey…yet they judge anyway.
In the last 2 years, what new belief, behaviour, or habit has most improved your life?
‘Let go, or be dragged’
What advice would you give to a smart, driven student about to enter the “real world? What advice should they ignore?
· Be yourself, the world will adjust.
· Emit your own frequency; don’t absorb the toxic vibes from jealous haters.
When you feel overwhelmed or unfocused, or have lost your focus temporarily, what do you do?
I take a walk in nature; I ground myself, mediate and perform Reiki on myself. I become realigned and refocused.
Tell us something that would surprise us about you?
I have been a target shooter for 8 years and an Author for 1 year. I deactivated my AK47 Kalashnikov to show the world that violence is not needed. Truth is more powerful and is able to create more change in a peaceful manner: ‘The Pen is Mightier’
What’s been the biggest challenge you’ve overcome?
My biggest challenge was being widowed at 25 in 2004; I had miscarried just 3 months earlier. Grief was a hard soul lesson for me. It was a dark time. I defrosted my late husband Ray’s body in the funeral home. His funeral was delayed by 71 days. He was found hanged at age 32. The inquest returned an Open Verdict. More will be revealed in the Wings Sequel which I am currently writing.
What would be your message to the AWMB community?
You can do anything with good intentions. Keep believing in yourself and have loyal friends and supporters. It’s not about awards but about good friends.
