Celebrating International Women’s Day with Courage, Connection and Community

This weekend at The Soho Hotel, we gathered for an intimate celebration of International Women’s Day. It was more than just an event—it was a deeply moving experience. The exclusive screening of Mother Kili, followed by a heartfelt discussion and a shared meal, created an atmosphere of reflection, empowerment, and solidarity.

The film Mother Kili took us on an emotional journey of resilience, courage, and identity. Watching 15 South Asian women summit Mount Kilimanjaro was not just a tale of physical endurance but a powerful metaphor for the personal mountains we all climb.

During the post-screening Q&A, we engaged in raw, honest conversations about the barriers we face as women—both external and internal. The discussions resonated deeply, reminding us that while the challenges are real, so is our collective strength.

Over lunch, we shared reflections, laughter, and moments of connection that will stay with us long after the event. These conversations reinforced what we already knew—numbers don’t define impact; stories, emotions, and community do.

“I left feeling empowered—like I, too, could take on my own ‘Kilimanjaro.’”

“This was more than a climb; it was a journey of self-discovery.”

“I was in tears—it made me reflect on my own fears and what’s really holding me back.”

Reflections from the Community

Jas Chana, one of our attendees, beautifully captured the essence of the day:

“I am on such a high after a great weekend of connection with South Asian ladies from the Asian Women MEAN Business community. Working in business can feel really lonely sometimes. As someone who craves connections, I knew I needed to start networking again this year.

On Saturday, we gathered at Soho Hotel for the exclusive screening of Mother Kili, the extraordinary journey of 15 South Asian women who climbed Mount Kilimanjaro. I really didn’t expect this documentary to unlock such deep emotions in me. It felt like I was there, struggling with them but also determined to push through to get to the top.

It made me deeply reflect on myself, and how over the years, at times, I have let fear and other people’s beliefs hold me back in my life. Watching this documentary and connecting with amazing women left me feeling so empowered. It reminded me that I am strong, that I should never give up on my dreams. Even though the road will be rocky at times, with the support of the right people around me, I can do anything I put my mind to.

We all can do this, so never give up on your dreams.”

Rupa also shared:

“This event was a reminder of how powerful we are when we come together. Seeing these incredible women take on such a challenge made me reflect on my own fears and self-doubt. It was a wake-up call to stop holding myself back. The conversations we had were so real, so raw—it’s not often we get to be this vulnerable in a room full of strong women. I walked away feeling lighter, inspired, and more connected than ever.”

This event reaffirmed that our journeys are not meant to be taken alone. Whether we are climbing mountains—literal or personal—we find strength in the stories, support, and solidarity of those around us.

As we move forward, let’s continue lifting each other up, creating spaces where we can be seen, heard, and celebrated. If you couldn’t join us this time, I hope to see you at a future event—where more moments of courage, connection, and transformation await.

Because together, we rise.
