It’s February, the month of love. But for this year, why not focus on loving ourselves instead? Self-love is an incredibly powerful tool that can help us to feel happier and more fulfilled in life. Self-love is a state of appreciation that grows from actions that support our physical, psychological and spiritual growth. Self-love means having a high regard for your own well-being and happiness. It involves taking care of your own needs and not sacrificing your well-being to please others.
Self-love means not settling for less than you deserve.
Here are a few ideas to help you jump start your own journey to self-love this month.
First, start by taking a bit of time each day to really think about why you’re special. Reflect on some of your positive traits and consider how important they are when it comes to who you are as a person. Reminding ourselves of our unique qualities can be a great way to boost our self-esteem.
Next, make yourself a priority by taking care of your mental and physical health. Find ways to relax and de-stress, like a warm bath or some soothing music. Exercise regularly and eat nutritious meals. These activities may seem small but they can have a big impact on our wellbeing.
Finally, give yourself more credit. We often tend to focus on our flaws and mistakes, but it’s important to recognise our achievements too. Next time you experience success or do something positive, remind yourself of your worth.
It’s easy to forget about ourselves when life gets busy, so don’t be afraid to take a moment for self-love this February.
What does self-love mean to you?
For me, it means:
- Talking to and about myself with love
- Prioritising my needs
- Giving myself a break from self-judgement
- Trusting my decisions and abilities
- Being true to myself
- Being nice to myself
- Setting healthy boundaries
Reflection, self-care and positivity can, over time, make a huge difference in how we view ourselves. Embrace yourself and love yourself. You deserve it.
