Growth Is Hard

“Real transformation requires real honesty. If you want to move forward – get real with yourself.” Bryant McGill

⁣Nearly 5 years ago I became a baptised Sikh. An incredible journey that started 7 years ago when something deep within started stirring…an awakening. I could hear my Soul telling me; “Wake up! It’s time! Remember who you are!”⁣⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣
But I felt such turmoil. The fear of changing. Of living a life outside of my comfort zone and the comfort zone of people close to me.⁣⁣⁣ Life was sending one challenge after the other. Bereavement. Grief. Illness. Rejection. Being let down by people I loved. It was hard. ⁣⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣The other thing that really held me back was fear of judgement and rejection. These fears holds us back from doing truly incredible things and becoming extraordinary. ⁣ We all know how judgemental our community can be, we are judged on what car we drive, what house we live in, what schools and universities our children go to, who we are married to, if we are married, what we are wearing, how we look, to be honest the list goes on and on and on.⁣

The fear of being judged gripped me as I was coming into my faith and experiencing  a personal transformation, I found myself needing to move out of the vibrational energy of many of my close friends and family at the time. ⁣

In my heart I knew that to experience the spiritual growth I yearned for, I needed to make certain decisions. But I felt torn and anxious about being judged. Would my family and friends think I was too religious now?  Part of the God Squad? That I considered myself to be ‘better’ than them? ‘Above’ them? Would they still accept me if I embraced my faith? Would they think ‘who the hell does she think she is?!’

I gave far too much energy to what others would think about me. Never again.

I can see now how these fears held me back from fully living a life authentic to me much sooner.⁣

This pandemic has shown us how fragile and fleeting our lives are and any time we are not honouring that is a disservice.  Ask yourself: “Am I truly happy?” If the answer is no or you’re not sure, that is a good indication that you need to change or something in you life needs to be transformed.

Yes it can be scary to change but it’s not as soul destroying as staying the same the rest of your life. As humans one of our biological needs is to learn and continue to grow and evolve. If we resist this need, then we cannot be truly happy, it leads to turmoil and suffering – something I well know.

Ask yourself the hard questions and commit to taking actions in the areas of your life that need to grow and evolve. You will thank yourself later. If you are having reservations about taking this step, just know that this is one of those instances where the grass will definitely be greener on the other side.

That I can promise.

  1. Such a testament to how growth can feel uncomfortable and such an unfamiliar place yet the rewards of having faith over fear will always be abundant with blessings.
