Here at AWMB we are champions of all women from our South Asian community who are following their purpose with passion and authenticity. There are powerful lessons for us all in seeing others step into their light and overcome obstacles to pursue what sets their soul on fire! And that leads us to Rita Morar. For some time now we have been huge fans of Rita, a London-based singer/songwriter who sings in both Hindi and English vocals. From a young age, music has always been an important part of Rita’s life. Whether it is devotional singing, playing the harmonium or having a great interest in a fusion of music from Bollywood to EDM, Rita continues to strive for a greater understanding in music. Her great musical influences lie with Nitin Sawhney, A.R Rahman, Lata Mangeshkar, Emeli Sande, Alicia Keys and Enigma to name but a few.
As a live performing artist, Rita has had the opportunity to sing to a wider range of audiences around the UK. Experiences include working with Keda Records with Kuljit Bhamra, being featured on BBC Radio and collaborating with bands such as The Phoenix Rose and Ar8 Collexion, for which Rita delivers haunting notes throughout. Rita’s debut song with Steve ‘Fingerz’ Carty called ‘Rain’ was released as a Dubstep remix by Piyush Bhatnagar aka Sound Avtar on Monkey Dub Recordings.
She was chosen by BBC Asian Network as Bobby Friction’s ‘Friction Introducing Artist of the week’ in April 2010.
‘It’s a work of immense beauty; I defy you to find a track more beautiful than this in 2010’
Bobby Friction about Rita’s song ‘Rain’
Aired on BBC Asian Network, BBC Radio 1 and also Buzz Asia, the song made an impact showcasing Rita’s powerful vocals amongst great Dubstep sounds. She was also invited by Susheela Raman to perform as an ‘Outerindia’ Woman at Richmix, London in November 2010. Further on, Rita was championed to feature by for the Eastern Electronic Festival by SHAANTI11 held in Birmingham. Opportunities started to rise.
In 2013, Rita was featured in Rifco Arts live interactive show ‘Mummyi Ji Presents’. Rita’s first solo single ‘Piya’ (which translates ‘Beloved’) was released in May 2013 and received critical acclaim. It also reached no.4 in the Top World iTunes Chart. ‘Piya’ was developed further through the official remix by Talal Qureshi receiving support from BBC Asian Network and BBC Radio 1. Through the success of ‘Piya’ Rita was invited by Nihal to perform a ‘Tabla Soul Sessions’ at Maida Vale Studios for BBC Radio 1 which can currently be viewed on BBC Radio 1’s website. The Piya remix also featured on ‘The Asian Collection’ (Sony Records).
Rita is now set to release her sixth single called ‘THIS IS LOVE’ on Friday 28 February 2020. ‘THIS IS LOVE’ shows a different side to Rita’s voice. With a powerful melody in a soft rock ballad style, Rita wanted to capture the audience with her strong voice and presence.
‘I want the listener to feel the journey of love and curiosity; the feeling of when you are intrigued by someone.’

Written and produced by Rita, ‘THIS IS LOVE’ will be available through all major digital platforms, but you can hear the teaser of the song on the following link: https://soundcloud.com/ritamorar/this-is-love/s-nbxh4
Despite being unsigned, singer/songwriter Rita has forthcoming music lined up and is already working on other projects with artists such as Hussain Manawer, Adrian Sherwood and Drifta. She recently performed at her first headline show in London for Mishti Dance. She hopes to touch even more audiences with her heartfelt vocals.
